Body of youth who fell off moving train found near Ullal bridge

Mangalore, July 22, 2013 : The body of Vinay Vaz (24), a youth from Sirsi who had slipped into the Netravathi river from the moving Netravathi Express, was found near Ullal bridge at Kotekar on July 21, Sunday.

Vinay Vaz2 1It is learnt that Vinay, a parishioner of the Infant Jesus Church, Sirsi was returning along with a group of 700 from Karwar Diocese from a youth retreat held in Kerala. He was heading the 48 member group of Infant Jesus Church, Sirsi.

According to Fr Wilson Fernandes, Parish Priest of Sirsi Church, Vinay who was new to the area, thinking that the station had arrived, had stepped out only to slip into the river. The body bore injury marks on the head indicating that he might have hit the protective barrier.

On hearing the sound of Vinay falling, the train’s chain was pulled. The train stopped for 40 minutes and proceeded. Five persons from Vinay’s team  got down at Mangalore  while the rest proceeded.

The deceased Vinay was the son of Wilson Vaz of Sirsi.
